Alfred's New Ramblings

Android 14

Android 14 new features are mainly security tweaks. In continuation of a previous post, see link below, on upgrading from Android 13 to 14, my review of unofficial PixelOS with nearly a month of use.

The Jabra Service app is no longer supported which means my Jabra Talk 45 cannot read WhatsApp messages to me. It’s time to check out Google notifications.

I changed the screen display from 120fps to 60fps to save battery life.

Posting pictures on apps, permission can be granted just once or always.

Android 14 introduces Selected Photos Access, which allows users to grant apps access to specific images and videos in their library, rather than granting access to all media of a given type.

If you choose Selected Photo Access, you will have another mini gallery to choose from again.

Circle to Search is nice. It brings Google Lens to allow you to search for things you see on your phone seamlessly. Somehow Google Lens can work with the Nova Launcher to interpret a long press on Home to launch it.

Most of the ring and notification tones are not working. I think this is mainly caused by the developer removing them.

Google Photos. Editing photos with people crashes the app. Strangely, photos with objects and landscapes are perfectly fine.

Digital Wellbeing service stops working at 12am and returns the display to normal.

I changed to another build of PixelOS by @kami kaonashi. Google Photos, edit function, Gcam Portrait mode, and Digital Wellbeing sleep mode all were solved! Nothing is free, now I have a serious wake problem. This version can’t wake up after being left locked for long periods. ReVanced YouTube cannot be installed.

Edit 24 May 24

The wake problem was impacting me, so I moved again back to @david disc build. At least the phone is stable.
