The DC is being shut down because of <reasons>. Due to customers dragging their feet, the shutdown became a relocation, downsizing the footprint instead of turning the lights out.
Pretty straightforward until 3 weeks before, everyone realised nobody thought of telling the customer to inform their telcos that this is happening. Telco usually need 4 weeks from PO to move or lay new circuits.
During the downtime window when the equipment is moved, we managed to do a switch. The contractor went behind the patch panel to change the cross-connect cable from one level to another. No telco field engineer required.
One of the telco’s Huawei mux needed to be restarted. Pulling the power cord did not turn it off, it seems that there was an internal battery pack. There were 2 power switches, shielded from view, that needed to be flipped. Crossed fingers and toes, both circuits were operational in quick time.
On the LAN side was another story. The new firewall had a few rules that needed to be corrected. Some equipment cabling was not laid. After 24 hours, the team managed to fix all the issues, the customers reported that their testing completed successfully.
