{"id":1321,"date":"2011-07-15T11:23:36","date_gmt":"2011-07-15T03:23:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alfredivy.per.sg\/blogger\/?p=1321"},"modified":"2016-01-02T10:26:51","modified_gmt":"2016-01-02T02:26:51","slug":"windows-2008-r2-server-cannot-login","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alfredivy.sg\/blogger\/2011\/07\/windows-2008-r2-server-cannot-login\/","title":{"rendered":"Windows 2008 R2 server cannot login."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My SCCM server in the midst of deploying new clients when it started behaving strangely.\u00a0 Deployments started failing and progressively the server operations degraded and Windows Explorer stopped working.<\/p>\n<p>After a reboot, a domain user cannot login, all that is shown on screen is &#8220;Connecting to User Profile service&#8221;.\u00a0 Local administrator was able to login though. A quick check with noodles, reveal a possible problem with profiles, 959125\u00a0but that is for Vista and Windows 2008 SP1.\u00a0 Mine is Windows 2008 R2.<\/p>\n<p>Using the local admin account on the KVM, I noticed that there are several other\u00a0 things that are not working right, &#8220;Network and Sharing Center&#8221; windows does not get populated and there is red X on it.\u00a0 Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer don&#8217;t launch.\u00a0 This does not look like a problem with Profiles.\u00a0 Event Viewer reveals that the COM+ service and VSS is not running properly.<\/p>\n<p>There is this mysterious Event ID 4609 about a program failing to run<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was 80070005 from line 200 of d:\\w7rtm\\com\\complus\\src\\events\\tier2\\service.cpp. This warning may be expected if the computer is low on resources. If the computer is not low on resources, and these warnings persist, it may indicate a problem in the COM+ Event System.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>VSS error 8193<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine IEventSystem::Store. hr = 0x80010108, The object invoked has disconnected from its clients<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The strange thing is that from the outside, everything is working.\u00a0 Shares can be connected, Computer Management works etc.<\/p>\n<p>I have thought it was due to IPv6 protocol was disabled after spending an hour struggling with blank &#8220;Network and Sharing&#8221; window, I managed to get to Network properties, all protocols enabled.<\/p>\n<p>This is now getting urgent due to other factors.\u00a0 I googled on the &#8220;D:\\&#8230;..&#8221; error and found a fix from Alaska Admin.\u00a0 This involves replacement of the security keys in OLE.\u00a0 What keys?\u00a0 Launch control. Possibly for COM+ Event!\u00a0 Backup and replaced the keys from another working server. \u00a0Thereafter it literally woke up.<\/p>\n<p>If you do not have a healthy Windows 2008 server to copy the keys from, create a virtual server.\u00a0 The keys are not tied to the hardware and will work across different servers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/cc774247(v=ws.10).aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Eventid<\/a>\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/akadmin.blogspot.com\/2011\/02\/event-id-4609-com-event-system-unable.html\">AlaskaAdmin<\/a> ( possibly dead link).
