{"id":1605,"date":"2012-04-23T11:38:29","date_gmt":"2012-04-23T03:38:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alfredivy.per.sg\/blogger\/?p=1605"},"modified":"2015-11-11T18:59:34","modified_gmt":"2015-11-11T10:59:34","slug":"run-350-by-ntuc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alfredivy.sg\/blogger\/2012\/04\/run-350-by-ntuc\/","title":{"rendered":"Run 350 by NTUC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To celebrate Earth Day, NTUC organized a run from the Floating Barrage@ Marina Bay on 22 Apr 12.\u00a0 This was the third year with the new\u00a0 addition of the 21km distance.<\/p>\n<p>There were 21km, 10km, and a kids run 350m.\u00a0 I took part in the 21km, flag off was at 6am.\u00a0 This is the first time I took a race shuttle bus.\u00a0 That means waking up at 3am for the 4.15am bus.\u00a0 I have to walk\/jog the 6 bus stops to the pick up point.\u00a0 The bus reached the start point with an hour to spare, I picked a corner and caught some zzzs.<\/p>\n<p>The race flag off at 6am was done in stages due to safety reasons.\u00a0 The narrow pedestrian bridge to the F1 pits building limited the number of runners.\u00a0 Thereafter was a wide track towards Nicholl Highway Station (CC5).\u00a0 On the Nicholl Highway, one side of the expressway towards city was closed for the race.\u00a0 The organizers split that into 2 halves.\u00a0 We\u00a0 started running towards Middle Road, U turn and run towards Indoor Stadium.\u00a0 We are now sharing the same road with runners in the back with a bunch of cones to separate us!\u00a0 Bad.<\/p>\n<p>By the time we reached Mountbatten Road and Stadium Boulevard, the main pack had taken over the whole road, outbound and inbound.\u00a0\u00a0 The motorcycle and bike escorts had to clear a way for the leaders were coming back.<\/p>\n<p>The run round the Indoor Stadium was uneventful, though the humps made by the temporary decking could have been lower.\u00a0 The inbound route took us back towards Nicholl Highway Station (CC5), merging with the 10km runners.\u00a0 Another\u00a0 U turn before splitting off toward Crawford Street to run round Kallang Riverside Park\u00a0 The final return was a 3km sprint via the Marina Park, starting from under Merdeka bridge towards the start point.<\/p>\n<p>Overall the race was reasonably organized.\u00a0 There were plenty of water and isotonic drink stops staffed with lots of volunteers.\u00a0 The inbound and outbound lane segregation was poor.\u00a0 The metal fencing were delivered to Marina area, but were not deployed.\u00a0 This needs to be improved.\u00a0 On other half\/full\u00a0 marathons, SBR\/MBR, SCB etc there were some cheerleaders giving some entertainment.\u00a0 For a run commemorating Earth Day, one would thought there will be cheerleaders to cheer the runners on.\u00a0 In the end,\u00a0 it was just another ground pounding session.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, my own race was very slow.\u00a0 I was off training and back on a few days before the race.\u00a0 At the start I was running too fast and had to slow down to catch my breath.\u00a0 Midway, I managed to find a pacer to &#8216;reset&#8217; and complete.<br \/>\nAt the 19km mark, I felt my muscles tensing up. My right knee had strange fluttering.
