{"id":2734,"date":"2014-02-10T09:59:44","date_gmt":"2014-02-10T01:59:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alfredivy.per.sg\/blogger\/?p=2734"},"modified":"2014-09-22T21:36:32","modified_gmt":"2014-09-22T13:36:32","slug":"lenovo-a1-reports-illegal-battery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alfredivy.sg\/blogger\/2014\/02\/lenovo-a1-reports-illegal-battery\/","title":{"rendered":"Lenovo A1 reports illegal battery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first Android devices, Lenovo A1 tablet was left aside for a few weeks . \u00a0Recently I tried charging the device , after a few minutes, the screen will light up saying &#8220;Battery is illegal&#8221; in English and Chinese. \u00a0Then the device shuts down.<\/p>\n<p>A quick noodling around, reveals that this is illegal battery problem is quite common, \u00a0except the repair method is uncommon. \u00a0The Lenovo A1 does not have a removable back. \u00a0The repair method is to unplug the battery, wait for a while and plug back. \u00a0The various U Tube videos showed a guy opening the back with his fingers, and another using a guitar pick. \u00a0I tried using a \u00a0normal credit card but it was too thick, so I put my expired IEEE membership card to good use. \u00a0It is a plastic covered cardboard and about half the thickness.<\/p>\n<p>I ran the card round and round the table to free up in the internal plastic catches. \u00a0Took some time as I did not want the back to break. \u00a0After a few tries, I managed to take the back off. \u00a0The battery is connected via short cable. \u00a0 \u00a0Unplug it and wait for a few minutes. \u00a0Plug it back and charge. \u00a0After a few seconds the charging light started blinking. \u00a0Several minutes later the green battery bar showed up on the screen showing 1%. \u00a0Do not install back the cover yet.<\/p>\n<p>After overnight charging, the device can be turned on. \u00a0Did a quick check through, looks like it is back. \u00a0Popped the back cover on.<\/p>\n<p>Lenovo maintenance manual <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.lenovo.com\/t5\/Idea-Android-based-Tablets\/A1-shuts-down-and-won-t-come-back\/td-p\/682685\" target=\"_blank\">link<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lenovo A1 tablet started reporting illegal battery.
