{"id":2740,"date":"2014-02-14T23:53:11","date_gmt":"2014-02-14T15:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alfredivy.per.sg\/blogger\/?p=2740"},"modified":"2014-02-27T14:48:27","modified_gmt":"2014-02-27T06:48:27","slug":"cyanogenmod-10-2-gustavo-kernel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alfredivy.sg\/blogger\/2014\/02\/cyanogenmod-10-2-gustavo-kernel\/","title":{"rendered":"Cyanogenmod 10.2 and Gustavo kernel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cyanogenmod 10.2 \u00a0is a good ROM. \u00a0It is lean with just enough bells and whistles to make \u00a0it as close as Google wanted. \u00a0I have always found that the kernel from the CM team has left much to be desired. \u00a0For example CM 10.1 ROM was an excellent work of art, for me it has a tendency to lose 3G connection after 24 hours. \u00a0Most irritating. \u00a0I solved that by using Dorimanx kernel.<\/p>\n<p>Now on CM10.2, Dorimanx kernel, I felt it seems to be slow or laggy. \u00a0Another third party kernel is Apolo, it gave good battery life, but nothing like Gustavo kernel. \u00a0With the Gustavo kernel, I managed to use it for up to 4 days and the battery life per charge was excellent. \u00a0Unfortunately, it does not suffer app crashes well. \u00a0When there is a crash, for me, this kernel tends to kill the whole phone. \u00a0Not crash the whole OS, where a reboot will solve. \u00a0It crash in such a big way, it will be stuck on reboot. \u00a0So far the only way to recover is to wipe the system and data, ie reinstall everything back from scratch.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, it crashed due to the famous USB MTP problem. \u00a0This was during work and I was short on time. \u00a0So I flashed back CM10.2 stock, no other kernel. \u00a0I did not want to go rearranging all the icons again, so I installed Aviate, the contextual launcher.<\/p>\n<p>I might do a few runs of stability tests and see what the uptime is like.<\/p>\n<p>Gustavo <a href=\"http:\/\/forum.xda-developers.com\/showthread.php?t=2222843\" target=\"_blank\">link<\/a>\u00a0Apolo\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/forum.xda-developers.com\/showthread.php?t=2291756\" target=\"_blank\">link<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dorimanx <a href=\"http:\/\/dorimanx.shine.sk\/\" target=\"_blank\">link<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Update 27 Feb<\/p>\n<p>The stock CM10.2 was quite stable but I noticed that I keep losing the radio signal after about 2 days. \u00a0Airplane mode, set to 2G, simply did not bring it back.
