Freemind <\/a>–\u00a0 Mind map program.\u00a0 Some schools encourage their students to use mind maps. \u00a0 Requires Java JRE 1.6 and above.<\/p>\n

RoyalTS <\/a>– Terminal service program.\u00a0 Enables you to simultaneous connect via RDP to multiple computers.\u00a0 This was open source, from version 1.4.x it is closed sourced.\u00a0 The free versions allows a maximum of 10 connections.\u00a0 Also covered here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gimp <\/a>–\u00a0 Graphics editing program\u00a0 This is a fully featured graphics editing software.\u00a0 Can be quite intimidating with its functions and layers.\u00a0 Once you familiarise with the user interface, it really rocks.<\/p>\n

Sysinternals<\/a> – System Internals of Windows.\u00a0 Enough said.<\/p>\n

Robocopy<\/a> – Robust copy, part of Windows Resource kit.\u00a0 A great live safer for file server migration.<\/p>\n

Ghostscript<\/a> – PDF converter.\u00a0 It takes PS files and converts into PDF.\u00a0\u00a0 This is freeware, even for commercial use.\u00a0 PDF995 engine is actually Ghostcript.<\/p>\n

Portable applications are programs that don’t require installation.\u00a0 All the executables and libraries are placed in a folder of your choice.\u00a0 Outside the system folder.\u00a0 This\u00a0can really save the day when you have computers that are locked down due to security policy and what you have can’t do the job.<\/p>\n

Keepass<\/a> An excellent password manager for all the network, forums and websites. A portable version enables you to put it on a USB stick. The database can be secured by master password and\/or key file. If\u00a0for some reason, you can still \u00a0view the original password.\u00a0 There are two versions available.\u00a0 The Classic Edition (1.17)which really lightweight requires nothing from the operating system comes with 2 types of encryption, \u00a0 The Professional Edition (2.10) requires Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0, comes with more features but only 1 type of encryption.\u00a0 link<\/a><\/p>\n
