I find it useful when mapping out progress of projects old and new.  From a central node\/aim, branches can drivers for the aim etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To create mind maps, there are several options.  MindManager is a paid software. The open source equivalent is the FreeMind.  I covered this in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alfredivy.sg\/blogger\/2010\/06\/useful-open-source-applications\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.alfredivy.sg\/blogger\/2010\/06\/useful-open-source-applications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Useful Free Applications<\/a> post. After a few years, there was a lack of improvement, and someone forked it to become Freeplane.  Now there are several cloud based mind map options, eg Miro.  These are typically tied to paid plans<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Listed below are some things that I found to make Freeplane more user friendly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Navigation\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Insert node down level &#8211; Tab <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to next\/previous node &#8211; Ctrl+Alt+left\/right <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>My favourite settings\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Default template\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tools, Preference, Environment, Files.  Standard template: light_nord_template.mm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Default Save directory\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tools, Preference, Environment, Save.  Default save directory: In Documents folder, create a sub folder.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highlight active node\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tools, Preference, Defaults, Selection Colors.  Check &#8220;Display selected nodes in bubbles&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Connector\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Insert connector &#8211; Control click to select 2 nodes.
