Alfred's New Ramblings

One day

I woke up earlier than usual, too many things on my mind. Packed yesterday’s dinner takeaway boxes into a plastic bag for lunch. Grabbed a box of SFP 1000BaseT to pass to the contractor. Rushed out to reach the customer site as I have a 9 am schedule conflict. I was too late, the bus had left, the next bus is <drum roll> my regular bus.

No choice. Walk faster to change buses and trains faster. Reached the customer site at 8.45 am. Passed over the SFPs and left. As I was walking out, I turned around and asked them to complete installing the SFPs in another DC first, then do the cable checking.

All done at 9 am, and now I have to look for a quiet place for my kickoff meeting. As the users’ morning briefings are still ongoing, I can’t take over a meeting room. Next best choice: the rooftop garden on the 4th floor. 9.03 am, I made my apologies and started the kick-off meeting. Later on, one of the SME gave me a giant bomb to solve.

During the meeting, I discovered my lunch box had leaked the sauce out, and the plastic bag holding the lunch boxes had a hole. Luckily, it was just soya sauce but it made stained nearly everything. The stars were really aligned on this.

Finished the meeting at 10 am, went downstairs to reheat my lunch. Brisk walk out while I am ordering a Grab ride to Father’s place to bring him for a medical checkup.

At 12.30 pm tests completed and now to wait for doctor’s review at 2.15pm, 2 hours to kill, need power for my laptop to update project schedule and do an escalation.

First, get some lunch; the food court was jam-packed. Father wasn’t keen on the crowd and preferred his biscuits. So we went to the cafe next to the driveway. There is a resting area with chairs and power points. After about half an hour, we left and went up Level 2. Surprisingly, the chairs outside the clinic have a power point. Note I am kind of obsessed with power points as my laptop has a weak battery.

The session with the doc was quick and it was all over in 15 minutes. Got the go ahead that we wanted. Settle payment via Medisave and left.

I reached home 4.30 pm and received a flurry of WhatsApp messages looking for my escalation email. <Sigh>. Continued working till evening.
