I have decided to archive the old Movable Type blog and its associated Photo Gallery.
I started by my blogging journey on Movable Type way back in 2008. It was clunky, with that constant rebuild, but it was better than doing it in FrontPage. Or by hand! After about a year, I moved over to new WordPress blog and left the first blog behind.
Some server migration by the hosting company killed the Movable Type blog. The new file path is different and almost everything broke. Search didn’t work, page wasn’t displaying properly and all the images were missing. I set it aside as the content were already reposted into WordPress.
Fast forward a lot of years, I saw another person’s collection of personal blog designs and thought why not fix my Movable Type blog.
On the first try, I could not login to the admin page. The setup verification script mt-check.cgi gave a weird SQL error. I pasted the error message into Google Gemini and it told me my Perl installation is missing a few modules. Fix that in cPanel. Rinse and repeat. Turns out I need to tell all the scripts where my new Perl modules are found. Fix each error message one by one. Make sure all the configs and Movable Type settings fields have https instead of http.
After a few days, I finally got everything working! Clean up the main webpage, fix the formatting for ease of reading, added in some screenshots. link
